Eagle Raceway 6/23/18

What a beautiful afternoon and evening! Mid-80’s and sunny gave way to a starry night as Colby Ridge presented Jackpot Junior Fan Club Night at Eagle Raceway Saturday. After lots of rain during the week the track prep crew gave the 133 teams on site a tacky, fast racing surface to compete on and the large crowd was treated to lots of furious action on the high banks.

There was 1 major occurrence in the preliminary action. In the third heat for the ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compacts the 21T of Braydon Horton lost its right rear tire and went barrel-rolling down the front stretch. He was not seriously injured.

The A Main for the Hoosier Racing Tire IMCA Sportmods saw Rick Flock’s 88F lead lap #1 followed by Josh Pfeifer in the 33J, Steven Muhlecke’s 24X and the 14 of Braydon Latture. Pfeifer snagged the lead on lap 2 as Trevor Noonan moved the 66 into second, Joe Schidler’s K00 grabbed third and Flock held the fourth spot. Latture spun in turns 1 & 2 the next time around, causing a big pileup. Cole Wayman passed Flock on the restart, putting the 18T into fourth. Latture again looped it on lap 8 and was sent to the pits. Noonan grabbed the top spot with 7 to go. Shawn Harker took over the fourth spot in the #40 the next time around, advanced to third 3 laps later and moved up to second after another circuit. Lance Borgman put the 76 into fourth with 2 to go but lost the spot to Wayman on the final lap. The first four to the flag were Noonan, Pfeifer, Schidler and Wayman. However, Pfeifer was penalized 3 spots for failing to slow and running into Harker. That made the official top 4 Noonan, Schidler, Wayman and Borgman.

This was Noonan’s second Eagle Raceway victory, but his first in a Sportmod. “It was fast tonight! It was definitely fun. The track made it really competitive. We had the race with the 33J for a while, and that was exciting. I want to thank my family and my friends for helping me all these years” stated Noonan. Noonan’s sponsors include Brodd’s Small Engine Repair, Longoria’s MMA Academies, Suds ‘N Scissors and Noonan Industries.

The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock Feature was next. Don Hall Jr.’s 92, the 2B of Brooke Fluckiger, Nick Beckman in the 22 and Dave Carter’s 2c were the first 4 back to the flag stand after lap 1. Carter passed Beckman on lap 3. Beckman jumped up to the lead the next time around. Lap 6 saw Carter take over second with Brett Saathoff’s 11B moving to third and Roy Armstrong putting the 6R into the fourth spot. Armstrong passed Saathoff the next time around and moved up to second with 9 to go. Tyler Jackson’s #13T lost a tire the next lap, bringing out the caution flag. With 7 laps remaining Jeff Ware put the 83 into fourth as Armstrong took over the lead. Ware moved up to third 2 laps later and took over second on the final circuit. The final top 4 were Armstrong, Ware, Beckman and Carter.

This was Armstrong’s second victory at Eagle this year and he related “It was a really good track tonight. Roger did an excellent job with all of the moisture we got this week. It was pretty smooth with a couple of rough spots, but not bad. With Michelle and Racine doing their fantastic job as always. I saw we had a lot of people in the stands, and it’s good to see that as always. Thanks to my sister Bonnie, my girlfriend Jo and my pit crew guy John”. Armstrong’s sponsors include Hummer Contracting, Schmidt Machine, NEAPCO.

Nate Thompson’s 3T, the 96 of Jaxon Saathoff, Aaron Pella in the 3A and Johnny Saathoff’s 96J led lap #1 of the Runner Freight IMCA Modified A Feature. Jesse Sobbing looped the 81X in turn 4 on lap 2 for a yellow flag period. Chad Andersen moved the 8C into fourth on the restart but lost the spot back to Johnny Saathoff the next time around. Andersen jumped up to third the next lap with Johnny Saathoff holding onto fourth. Lap 6 saw the yellow lights come on in the corner for debris on the track. 1 lap after the restart Johnny Saathoff passed Andersen for third as Bob Zoubek also got around Andersen to put the 5S into fourth. Andersen and Zoubek swapped the fourth spot the next 2 times around. Johnny Saathoff passed Jaxon Saathoff with 8 to go. Zoubek also got past Jaxon Saathoff after another lap. 5 laps remained when Andersen again grabbed fourth. Johnny Saathoff snagged the lead 2 laps later and held onto it to the finish. The top 4 were Johnny Saathoff, Thompson, Zoubek and Andersen.

This was Saathoff’s initial 2018 victory at America’s Home Track. He said “I should have had the win last week but ended up 5 pounds light at the scales. My mother passed away last week, and I wanted to get that win for her, so this week I had to get it done! I was trying to do it for her, and I felt that she helped me get the win. I’m just happy to be back in victory lane. I have so many sponsors and people behind me that make this car go that I need to thank. I’m 55 years old, and I was trying to keep after it, but the track tonight was really hard on an old guy”. Saathoff’s sponsors include Jet Racing Cars, Speedway Racing Engines, Toobey’s Lumber, Penner Insurance and Independent Equipment.

Lap 1 of the ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compact finale was led by Tommy Etherton’s 24T with Nick Lindblad’s 26, the 18X of Jeff Creek and Justin Callender’s 13BS rounding out the top 4. Ramsey Meyer vaulted all of the way up to third on lap 2 in the 21R with Callender also passing Creek to hold onto fourth. Meyer moved up to second the next time around. 1 more lap saw RJ Maas put the 88K into fourth. Meyer snagged the lead the next circuit. Callender again moved to fourth with 9 to go, lost the spot back to Maas 2 laps later, passed him the next lap and again lost the spot to Maas with 3 to go. With 2 laps remaining there was a yellow for debris on the track. Over the last 2 laps the top 4 spots remained unchanged with Meyer winning, Lindblad second, Etherton third and Maas fourth.

This marked Meyer’s first Eagle Raceway win in 2018 and came from the 12th starting spot. “It’s been a little while since we were down here. Our home track booted our class for another one tonight, so we got a little break from there and figured we’d come down here. This was probably the heaviest track that I’ve raced on down here, but that makes it fun. I’ve got to thank my dad and my brother for all of the time that they put in on the car. Plus, my mother and grandparents for all of their support” said Meyer. Meyer’s sponsors include Tom’s Service in Pierce, Norfolk Transmission and Jet Racing.

The IMCA Sprint Racesaver A Feature’s initial circuit saw Dwight Carter’s 4U, the 19JR of Paul Hendrickson, Joey Danley in the 14 and the 22D of Danny Nekolite the top 4. Trevor Grossenbacher vaulted the 35 up to third on lap 2. Grossenbacher moved up to second the next lap with Danley following him into third and Ryan Kitchen putting the 21 into fourth. Grossenbacher passed Carter for the lead on lap 5 and Danley followed suit the next lap. Kitchen advanced to third on lap 8. Hendrickson went tumbling through turns 1 and 2 the next time around, causing a red flag condition. Hendrickson was not seriously hurt, but his mount was destroyed. Mike Boston put the #51 into the fourth spot on the restart. Danley snagged the lead the next lap and started to pull away from the field. Boston made the final change in the top 4 when he moved up to third after 2 more laps. The final top 4 were Danley, Grossenbacher, Boston and Kitchen.

Danley became the first repeat winner in the Racesaver class at the track this year. He stated “After 2 rough weeks there we got it done again, and that felt pretty good. The track was tacky and rough; it was a “Cowboy Up” track, and that’s what we like; it puts the race in the hands of the driver. We started eighth and ran up to the front quick, but a couple of cars got crossed up there and Trevor got by me. I thought we were going to have to settle for second, but we were able to track him down there and I guess we kind of ran off from him after that. Sometimes it’s better to run second on a track like this. I mean, he was going a little too high, and getting into the rough spots and that allowed me to catch him”. Danley’s sponsors include Heiserman Flooring, Nissen Hardwood Floors, Automotive Services, Russell Shoulders Racing Engines, CleanRite Sweeping and Empire Fencing.

Next weekend sees Hotsy and Froggy 98 sponsor Freedom Fest 55. Twinky the Clown will be there from 5:30 to 7:30 for the kids. It is also Service Appreciation Night with Police, Fire and Rescue and Military getting free grandstand admission with current service ID or being in uniform. The yearly gigantic fireworks extravaganza will be held following the last feature race.

Front gates open at 5:15 with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at 6:30. Adult admission is $12, youths 6-12 are just $5 and children 5 and under are free.

The Racesaver Sprint Cars, Runner Freight Modifieds, Hoosier Racing Tire Sport Modifieds, Valentino’s Hobby Stocks and ATV Motorsports Sport Compacts will all be in competition.

Pit gates open at 4 P.M. with pit passes costing $25.

Fathers Day 2018

In this, my 66th trip around the sun, I took time this Father’s Day to reflect a little. I thought back to my own father and how badly I missed him. I remembered how many times he gave to others, although we hardly had anything of our own. That was just his nature. He put others first, helping whenever someone needed it. He didn’t wait to be asked, because back then you didn’t ask for help; people then were too proud, too independent. But, somehow, he knew! And he did what needed to be done.

And back then, people actually respected the police for what they did. That sounds strange in the present day, because the media insists on showing all the bad things to do with the police, and never share the good ones. Show when an officer has to use the force necessary to subdue a miscreant? Sure!! Share when an officer saves a person from a burning car? Or goes into a burning building to save a child?? Post video of one playing with neighborhood kids or giving a homeless person money for a meal??? Of course not!!!!!

Anyway, he was my idea of a great man; an all-around great guy. He could be as tough as nails, sweet as pie and as funny as any comedian. He was a consummate practical joker, and his favorite targets were his fellow officers. But, friends and family were definitely not immune. I thought a lot about some of those officers today also, thanks to friends on Facebook. Bob Edmunds, Paul Jacobsen, Rollie Woodruff, Roger LaPage. I knew most of the officers on the force back then, and they knew me.

In my childhood I used to walk the 3 miles downtown to go to a movie in order to save the 10-cent bus ride and do the same on the return trip. I can’t recall how many times I was going to or from a movie when a patrol car would pull up and one of the officers would yell at me, asking if I wanted a ride home. I bet there are 147 rules against such conduct now. But, that was a kinder, gentler time and my father was a kind, gentle man who could rise to any occasion the job put in front of him.

These reminiscences brought to mind my own job as a father. My boys both called and wished me happy Father’s Day of course. My youngest son had his wife and daughters in the vehicle and they all yelled to let me know they wished me well. Shortly after that, my other daughter-in-law called to let me know she was dropping off a banana cream pie; my FAVORITE!!! The youngest brought supper over so we could spend time together. Later that afternoon my oldest boy child called, wishing me happy Father’s Day, and telling me thank you for all I’d done. Odd but I don’t recall doing much for either of my sons, or their families. Linda and I have helped them both from time to time of course, with whatever they needed. But, isn’t that what parents are for? Or am I living in the past and going by old-fashioned morals? Those morals have held me in good stead for 66 years, and I have no intention of changing now. I learned those at my father’s side and I trust that they are good today and forever.

Speaking of sons, those 2 big galoots of mine seem to have learned a thing or 3 from me. At least from time to time. Are they perfect? Hell no!!! Would I want them to be? Hell no!!! Do they do things that drive me berserk? Hell YES!!! Am I pleased with the men they’ve grown to be? You’d better believe it.

I think it’s only human nature to wonder if we are the people that we really want to be. We want to be better than our parents, whether or not that’s possible; and I’m not 100 percent positive that is possible in my case. We want to be better husbands or wives, better parents, better people period. It’s only human nature! But, since we are human, we probably can’t succeed; and I can live with that.

To my father, your father, my sons, your sons and every other father in the world, Happy Father’s Day.

Eagle Raceway 6/9/18

Most dirt tracks would have cancelled the show when they got a 20-minute rain shower during hot laps, but the Eagle Raceway track prep crew saved the racing surface so that the crowd and the 151 teams that towed to compete could enjoy Color Me Lucky Night, presented by Runner Freight and Accelerated GraphX. Once the clouds passed the track was fast and the racing tremendous.

The only serious incident in the preliminary events came in the B Feature for the IMCA Sprint Racesavers when the 12T of Tige Jensen got crossed up and Trevor Grossenbacher’s 35 ran over Jensen’s left front wheel and went airborne. Neither driver was seriously hurt, but both cars were too damaged to continue.

The Hoosier Racing Tire IMCA Sportmod A Feature saw Mike Scheinost’s 51, Gunnar Pike in the 25, the K00 of Joe Schidler and Nick Morris’ 11H out front of the pack on lap #1. Lap 2 saw Scott Bivens put the S56 up to third. The yellow flag flew on lap 4 when Randy Fox’s 09RX stopped in the entrance to the pits. Pike grabbed the lead on the restart as he, Bivens and Schidler all passed Scheinost. The next circuit saw Shawn Harker move to fourth in the 40. Schidler took over the second spot on lap 6. Another caution came out the next time around as debris was spotted on the track and Schidler headed to the pits, putting Mary Lenz in the 17 in the fourth spot. Bivens took over the lead with 11 to go. Harker advanced to second the next lap and try as he might, he could not manage to pass Bivens. The top 4 were Bivens, Harker, Pike and Lenz.

Bivens’ win came from the 6th spot on the starting grid. “It’s been a year and a half since my last win, at least. I should have had one last year, maybe, but we blew up. But, we just keep chugging along; we’re getting faster this year, so maybe we’ll do this some more! It wasn’t that easy though. Shawn, he’s a good wheel man and he made me earn it tonight. The track was a little rough after the rain, but we won so I thought it was awesome. There’s a lot of people who have helped me out for a long time now that I need to thank. Alan Auto Sports, my parents and my son who gives me crap about not winning features, but he wins them. Now I’m 1 up on him this year” Bivens related. Scott’s sponsors include Sardeson Racing, Aero Wheels, Dominator Products, Bivens Vinyl Siding, Spyder Race Cars and the D-Sign Shop.

The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock Feature’s first lap saw Brooke Fluckiger’s 2B out front followed by the 22 of Nick Beckman, Khrysta Stransky in the 39 and Colby Kaspar’s 39C. Beckman grabbed the lead on lap 2. The next lap saw Stransky take over second and the 66 of Jeff Watts move up to fourth. Watts advanced to third the next time around. Dillon Richards cracked the top 4 after another lap in the 24R. The yellow lights came on in the corners the next circuit as a car spun in turn 4. Tyler Saathoff moved into the fourth position with 10 to go. Jeff Ware jumped the 83 up to third 2 laps later as Stransky held onto fourth. Saathoff again grabbed the fourth spot the next time around. Ware advanced to second with 2 laps remaining. The final change in the top 4 came on the last lap s Saathoff took over third, making the final top 4 Beckman, Ware, Saathoff and Watts.

This was Beckman’s first win in quite a while also, coming from outside the second row. “I’d say it’s been 4 years since I’ve finally been on the front stretch there. It feels really good to be back in a hobby stock. I’m not going to lie; I think that I had to adjust the driver more than I did the car. But, we’re here now and hopefully we’re here to stay. I knew that I had to get out front and run away. I’m just glad that I was able to hold off all of the fast drivers. Apparently, I was just a little faster than them tonight” he said. Beckman’s sponsors include ServicePRO Carpet Cleaning, Performance 66, KSR Racing, Goldfuss Racing, D-Sign Shop and the Beverage Connection.

Brandon Spanjer’s 19X, the 72 of Mike Lineberry, Justin Wulf in the 86 and the 7 of Bob Ruisinger led the field after 1 circuit of the A Main for the Runner Freight ICA Modifieds. The field was competing for a $1,000 to win prize, thanks to additional funds provided by Runner Freight. Mike Densberger passed Ruisinger on lap 2 to put the 81 into fourth, only to be passed by Jordan Grabouski’s 30 the next time around. Grabouski passed Wulf after another lap and Densberger also got past Wulf after another lap was in the books. Densberger continued to advance, moving up to third. Grabouski snagged the lead on lap 9. From there he continued to stretch his lead until Spanjer spun on the front stretch after contact with the 96 of Jaxon Saathoff. That made the top 4 Grabouski, Densberger, Wulf and the 94 of Dan Nelson. The top 4 remained unchanged from there to the finish.

Unlike the evening’s previous 2 winners, Grabouski is no stranger to Victory Lane at Eagle Raceway this year. He posted his fifth win of the year tonight, after starting 10th. “I had a good car tonight that could move around and get through traffic really well. The biggest thing was keeping my nose clean. When you win $1000, it’s really cool and a great night. I want to thank Runner Freight for the added money to win, and for supporting the modified class here at Eagle. It’s awesome to see someone care so much about racing. It makes me want to keep coming back here and see what happens! The track was difficult tonight after the rain, but everyone had the same track to race on” stated Grabouski.

The ATV IMCA Sport Compact finale had Dan Markham’s 6, the 22B of Daniel Morris, Tyler Masek’s 23 and Tommy Etherton in the 24 out front on lap 1. Etherton jumped up to second on lap 2 as Trenten Fugett put the 3T into fourth. Fugett passed Etherton the next lap and grabbed the lead the next time around with Etherton holding second, Markham third and Morris fourth. Masek took over the third spot on lap 5. Another circuit was in the books when Kyle Owen moved the 10K into fourth. Etherton passed Fugett with 7 to go and retained the lead when Fugett lost a tire and brought out the caution. At that time, it was Etherton, Markham, Owen and Masek. A lap after the restart Steffen Oaks passed Masek, putting the 30K into fourth, but lost the spot back to Masek after another lap. Jeff Creek’s 18X stopped in turn 4 with 4 to go, and the yellow lights were lit again. Oaks regained the fourth spot 1 lap after the restart, moved to third the next lap and grabbed second on the final circuit. The final top 4 were Etherton, Oaks, Markham and Owen.

This was Etherton’s first 2018 victory at Eagle, coming from 6th. He said “It was definitely a rougher track tonight after the rain, and that usually suits my strengths. I’m used to the ruts and I love just bouncing on through them to see how quickly I can get up to the front. The rain definitely softened the track up, but Roger puts on a hell of a show! It means so much to have all of these great competitors come out here to Eagle. We usually get the biggest car counts in the sport compacts in the state, and that’s awesome. I tried to diamond going into turn 1 at the start, shot through there and the next thing I knew I could see the leader. I’d like to thank Kenny Johnson, my Mom and Dad and all of my friends for all of their support”. Etherton’s sponsors include G & R Graphics, MC Larkins, Belmont Husky Service and CBS Signs.

At the start of the IMCA Sprint Racesaver A Main a total of 5 cars ended up spun or stopped near turn 4. The 4W of Nate Weiler, Stu Snyder’s 5, the 14G of Gene Ackland, Doug Lovegrove in the #1 and Shon Pointers 20P all were involved. This brought out a complete restart with only Lovegrove able to rejoin the battle.  Jason Miller led the first official lap in his #77 with Clint Benson’s 100, the 17 of Dan Satriano and Tim Hilfiker in the 20 close behind. Benson moved to the lead on lap 2 with Mike Boston leaping all of the way into second in the 51. Satriano advanced to third the next time around with Jason Danley taking the 4X into fourth after another circuit.  Tyler Drueke took the 12 past Danley for fourth on lap 7. The first caution of the race came on lap 8 when Miller spun to the infield. At that time, it was Benson, Boston, Satriano and Drueke the top 4. Boston used his favorite line around Eagle Raceway, the VERY top, to pass Benson on the restart as Drueke moved up to third. 3 more laps were done when Drueke moved up to second and Danley again took fourth. Hilfiker looped it with 11 laps remaining for the final caution of the evening. Danley moved up to third with 10 to go, but from there to the finish nothing slowed Boston except lapped traffic as he held on to win with Drueke second, Danley third and Benson fourth.

This was Boston’s first win this season, after having visited victory lane twice in a row last year. His charge came from outside the fifth row at the start. When I spoke with Boston, I said, “It’s about time, Mike!” and inquired what he thought of the race. In typical Mike Boston fashion, he said “It’s about time, Mike!”. He continued by saying “Tonight was my kind of track. The rougher the better!! I mean, sometimes it can bite you, but it is what it is. Roger did a good job getting it to where we could race on it at all. It was rough, but there was a LOT of water on there after the rain. We had a great car tonight. Last week we had just a 7-cylinder motor. Zach Woods forgot to connect the 8th one up for us, so we ran the whole night on 7 cylinders. It was just one of those deals; nobody’s fault of course. They got it fixed and the car ran great!! My hat is off to Zach at Speedway Engines though. I’ve been with that guy for 20 years now. I started out with Eckley Racing Engines when he worked for Jay, then he bought out Jay. Then Zach went out on his own until Speedway bought out Zach and he’s still working for them. He’s my one engine builder and I couldn’t be happier. There’s not a whole lot of people who can say that they’re still with the same engine builder that they started out with 20 years ago.  And he’s who I’m going to finish with! I also want to mention Matt Talbot Kitchens. They are a great bunch of people and working for a great cause. I can’t thank them enough for what they do and if we can help the out, then that’s what its all about”. Boston’s sponsors include Moock Trucking and Boss Cleaning.

Next weekend Pepsi and Bud Light present Poker Face Chase-Dad’s Tribute at Eagle Raceway. There will be a Dad’s Drag Race at intermission and Blinky the Clown will be there from 5:30 to 7:30 for the kids. The 50/50 drawing will benefit Wreaths Across America.

Front gates open at 5:15 with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at 6:30. Adult admission is $10, youths 6-12 are just $5 and children 5 and under are free.

The Racesaver Sprint Cars, Runner Freight Modifieds, Hoosier Racing Tire Sportmods, Valentino’s Hobby Stocks and ATV Motorsports Sport Compacts will all be in competition.

Pit gates open at 4 P.M. with pit passes costing $25.

Eagle Raceway 6/2/18

By Greg Soukup

If you looked up ‘Perfect Night for Racing’ in the dictionary, you would see a picture of Saturday night at Eagle Raceway!! Temperatures started out in the low 80’s with lots of sun and a northerly breeze, cooling to the high 60’s by A Feature time.

The large crowd that showed up for Double Down Duel presented by Hormel and Miller Lite were treated to lots of racing thanks to the 160 cars that pulled into the pits. Despite 1 ¾” of rain the night before the track prep crew did their magic and by the time the finales rolled out there were 2 racing lines and plenty of action.

The only major incidents both occurred in the IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car B Feature. On the initial start there was a big mess going into turn 1, resulting in the #28 of Tom Belsky rolling over. On the second try another pile-up happened in turns 3 and 4 that had the 3G of Bill Garrow going up and over. Neither driver was seriously injured, but both cars were badly damaged.

In the IMCA Sport Mod A Feature Dana Deeke’s 36, the 18 of Dion Kovar, Cole Wayman in the 18T and Logan Thomsen’s 9T were the top 4 after the first lap. Thomsen moved up to third on lap 2 but gave the position back to Wayman the next time around. Kovar snagged the lead on lap 6. Deeke spun the next time around and Kovar retired. That put Wayman out front with Thomsen, the 27 of Anthony Kobus and Joe Feyen in the 25X the top 4. Kobus passed Thomsen on the restart and took the lead the next lap. Feyen got past Kobus after another circuit but lost the spot back to him the next lap. Also, the 40 of Shawn Harker moved up to fourth the same lap. Scott Bivens’ S56 stopped in turns 1 & 2 the next time around to bring out the yellow flag. 1 lap after the restart Harker advanced to third and took over the second spot the next lap. Lance Borgman cracked the top 4 in the 76 after another lap was in the books. With 4 circuits remaining Adam Vrbka’s 7V stopped on the back stretch as the caution lights were lit again. Borgman took third on the restart. The final change in the top 4 came on the final lap as Harker made a last-ditch effort for the win and passed Kobus coming out of turn 4 for the victory by a margin of just 33/1000’s of a second!!! Harker, Kobus, Borgman and Feyen ended up the top 4.

This was Harker’s 4th win out of 5 races this season at Eagle Raceway. “OH BOY! THAT WAS CLOSE!! I knew it was close, and I thought I won but you never know when you’re coming to the checkered flag like that. I was being patient; just trying to work my way through there. Some people don’t see it, that it’s an 18-lap race and they want to win it on the first lap. I just tried to be patient. We had a problem with the car last night and thought we got it fixed, but we had another problem that came up tonight. I wasn’t even sure we could make it out for the heat race, but my guys jumped right in on it and got it fixed in time. I really have to thank my wife again; she was a trooper today. We had that problem and I needed parts from Lincoln. We live in Nebraska City and it’s an hour and 10 minutes away. She didn’t hesitate to jump in the car and head out to get what we needed, even though she had plans of her own. I just can’t thank her enough for doing that” he said. Harker’s sponsors include Speedway Motors, Johnny Saathoff with Jet Racing, Cole with Lakeside Landscaping, VP Heartland Fuels, Tex Cattle, Kyle Vanouver, D-Sign Shop and Patriot Crane and Rigging.

The Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks were the next Feature. Lap 1 saw Colby Kaspar’s 39C, the 92 of Don Hall Jr., Tyler Jackson in the 13T and Jeff Watts’ 66 out front. Watts passed Jackson for third on lap 4. Hall fell to the infield on lap 7, moving Watts to second, Jackson back to third and putting the 22 of Nick Beckman fourth. Tyler Saathoff’s 16T stopped at the top of turn 2 the next lap after losing a tire. Beckman spun out on the restart moving the 11B of Brett Saathoff to fourth. Roy Armstrong jumped up to third in the 6R with 8 to go as Jackson again fell back to fourth. Armstrong continued his march to the front, taking over second with 5 to go and moving up to the lead the next lap. 2 laps later Jackson took back the third spot and Dillon Richards put the 24R into fourth the next time around. The final top 4 were Armstrong, Watts, Jackson and Richards.

“The track was a little rough tonight, but I know that Roger did everything that he could with the weather conditions that we had; so, hats off to him. I want to say ‘Happy Birthday’ to Racine and thanks to Michelle also. We’ve been struggling a little bit this year. We’ve had good finishes, but just haven’t made it to victory lane. It was nice to get back there tonight. There’s a lot of fast car here at Eagle and a lot of good drivers. There’s great competition every week, no doubt about it. I want to thank my sponsors; Schmidt Machine, Hummer Contracting and NEAPCO. Thanks to my sister Bonnie, my girlfriend Jo and Ron for helping me in the pits”.

Jeff Schroyer’s 007 held the lead after the first lap of the Runner Freight IJCA Modified A Main with Nate Thompson’s 3T, the 81 of Mike Densberger and Jaxon Saathoff’s 96 rounding out the top 4. Lap 2 saw Dan Nelson put the 94 into fourth. Densberger passed Lineberry for second on lap 3 and grabbed the lead the next time around. Nelson was also on the move moving the third on lap 4 and advancing to second the next lap. Rik Gropp cracked the top 4 with 12 to go in the V45 and moved up to third the next circuit. Johnny Saathoff passed Gropp with 8 to go to put the 96J into fourth. Dustin Andersen looped the 8A in turns 3 & 4 with 5 to go. Jordan Grabouski, who had to transfer through the B Feature took over fourth in his #30 with 4 to go and vaulted into second after 2 more laps. The final change in the top 4 came on the last lap as Gropp again moved up to fourth. The final top 4 were Densberger, Grabouski, Nelson and Gropp.

This was Densberger’s first Eagle Raceway in quite a while and came from the 5th starting spot. Densberger related “It’s been a long time; almost 3 years now. I knew there was a lot of fast cars behind me, so I wanted to get to the front and keep them behind me. It was a little rough tonight, but after how much rain we got last night you couldn’t ask for a better track. We set the car up for it and she was a rocket tonight”. Densberger’s sponsors include Johnny Saathoff with Jet Racing, Skytop Towers, Miller Farms, Dynamic Drivelines, Gana Trucking and Excavating, Neeman Refuse, Randy Ward and Jackie and the Niederhaus family.

Fred Johnson was first back to the flag stand in the ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compact A Main in the #69 followed by the 25 of Josh Johnson. Lap 2 saw Shawn Hein put the 5H into second with the 13J of Josh Young in third and Josh Johnson holding onto fourth. Zach Bohlmeyer passed Johnson on lap 5, making the 24Z fourth, but lost the spot back to Josh Johnson the next time around. Fred Johnson went extremely high with 8 to go moving Hein to first and Young to second. Bohlmeyer jumped to third with 5 to go and Steffen Oaks moved to fourth in the 17. Young snagged the top spot with 3 to go. Hein slowed on the final lap, making the top 4 young, Bohlmeyer, Jeff Creek in the 18X and Oaks. Bohlmeyer was disqualified in tech after the race, moving Creek and Bohlmeyer up and allowing Josh Johnson to take home the fourth spot.

This was Young’s first victory at Eagle Raceway in this his third year in the sport compacts and came from the second row outside on the starting grid. “That was my cousin Shawn and I battling there at the beginning. We always race each other tough; its always good competition. It was fun and a good race. Tonight wasn’t my type of track; I like a muddy track. But, we still got it done. Unfortunately, I ended up blowing my motor on the first corner of the cool-down lap. I want to thank my girlfriend Morgan, my mom and step-dad, Anthony and Ty” he stated. Young’s sponsors include Brown’s Masonry and Tree Spraying, Husker Rehab and Fester’s Bait and Tackle.

The IMCA Racesaver Sprint Cars then rolled onto the track for their finale. Paul Hendrickson’s 19J, the 0 of Chase Weiler, Gene Ackland in the 14G and Neil Nickolite in the 12N led the pack at the end of the first circuit. Ackland got sideways in turn 1 and ended up hopping the Armco guardrail in the air before coming to a halt on the grass inside the fence on all 4 wheels. A complete restart was then called for. The first official lap saw Weiler out front, the 7 of Toby Chapman second, Ryan King’s 93 third and Nickolite fourth. Chapman moved to the lead on lap 2 with King remaining in third and Hendrickson falling to fourth. Joey Danley got past Hendrickson the next, moved up to third after another circuit and grabbed second the next time around. Danley moved to the lead on lap 5 as Stu Snyder put the #5 into fourth. Snyder advanced to third the next lap. Despite heavy traffic Danley held off the field to the checkers. The final top 4 were Danley Chapman, Snyder and Tyler Drueke who took the #12 into fourth with four laps left.

Danley’s victory was his first this season, after suffering  several failures to begin the year. He said “Finally! It’s been a rough start for sure. I lost one motor already and had some other rough luck, but we finally put one together tonight. I initially started 11th, but that wreck at the beginning helped us out a little bit. We just kind of set sail from there and drove it right to the front. That was some heavy traffic though. I thought I was going to lose the lead in traffic, but evidently I built up enough of a lead and that’s probably the only reason I held on there. I was struggling at the end. When I got out there in clean air that’s what won us the race because once I caught the lapped traffic I couldn’t figure out how to get around them”. Danley’s sponsors include Heiserman Flooring, Nissen Hardwood Floors, Automotive Services, Russell Shoulders Racing Engines, CleanRite Sweeping and Empire Fencing.

Next Saturday is Color Me Lucky Night, presented by Runner Freight and Accelerated Graphx. Twinky the Clown will be there from 5:30 to 7:30. There will be a free kids Color Run during intermission.

Front gates open at 5:15 with hot laps at 5:30 and racing at 6:30. Adult admission is $10, youths 6-12 are just $5 and children 5 and under are free.

The Racesaver Sprint Cars, Runner Freight Modifieds, Purdue University Sport Modifieds, Valentino’s Hobby Stocks and ATV Motorsports Sport Compacts will all be in competition.

Pit gates open at 4 P.M. with pit passes costing $25.
