Eagle Raceway 8/4/18

Rain the night before and in the morning made the track a little soft for the High Roller Rumble, presented by ATV Motorsports and Runner Freight at Eagle Raceway Saturday evening. The pits were full, and the track was tacky, so the racing was fantastic!!

In the B Feature for the Racesaver IMCA Sprint Cars Dakota Osborn’s #79 ended up too high in turns 1 and 2 and went up and over. Osborn was not seriously injured.

Beau Riffel’s 413, the 5S of Roger Sluka, Dion Kovar in the 18 and the 66 of Trevor Noonan led the field on the first circuit of the Hoosier Racing Tire IMCA Sportmod Feature. Noonan passed Kovar on lap 2 for second. Sluka’s steering column had a failure on lap 3 as the pack approached turn 3.  Sluka spun in front of the field and ended up collecting 9 other cars. When the action restarted Riffel led followed by Kovar, the 14X of Lane Cornwell and Matthew Andrews in the 22. Andrews advanced to third on the restart and took second place the next time around as Joe Feyen put the 25X into fourth. Andrews took over the top spot after another lap with Kovar second, Feyen third and the 96 of Gary Saathoff grabbing fourth. Saathoff passed Feyen after another circuit. Feyen retook third with 5 to go. Saathoff spun to the infield with 3 to go, allowing Riffel to move back to fourth but Riffel lost the spot to the 66X of Chris Wright after another lap was in the books. The top 4 were Andrews, Kovar, Feyen and Wright.

This was Andrews initial victory at Eagle Raceway this year after starting 16th. He related “It’s taken us awhile. We’ve got this new Jet car and it’s starting to flex getting to a comfortable spot where she likes it. That pile-up helped us, which sucks because a lot of good cars got torn up; and that’s not a good thing. But, I’ve been in that same situation, so I’ll take the win. The track was a little rough, but we found a groove that was really smooth, and the car was hooking up really good after we found it. But, when you get rain the night before there’s not much anybody can do about it”. Andrews’ sponsors include Lippy’s BBQ, Skytop Towers, Raymond Contracting, Bonta Medical, PBS Rentals, RDM Landscapes and All Pro Heating and Air.

Brooke Fluckiger’s 2B, the 16T of Tyler Saathoff, Casey Moyer’s 38C and Nick Beckman’s 22 were the top 4 after lap #1 of the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock A Main. Moyer jumped up to the lead on lap 2 as Jeff Watts put the 66 into fourth. Jeff Ware’s 83 spun in turn 4 with 9 to go. Roy Armstrong put the 6R into fourth with 7 laps remaining but got spun out 2 laps later. From there to the finish it was clean with Moyer winning, Beckman second, Saathoff third and Fluckiger fourth.

This marked Moyer’s second visit to victory lane at Eagle this year. “it was a great track tonight; my type of track. Once I got out in front I knew that this was going to be my night. The track was perfect; it was great for me. I need to thank my beautiful wife and my children, my uncles, of course my Dad as well as Anthony and Todd Peterson” he said.

The Runner Freight IMCA Modified finale had Bob Ruisinger’s 7 out front of lap 1 followed by Jaxon Saathoff’s 96, the 3A of Aaron Pella and Trevor Baker’s 25! Pella grabbed second on lap 2 and Baker moved to third. Chad Andersen moved to fourth in the 8C on lap4. Norm Ziegenbein’s 1Z slammed hard sideways into the implement tire guarding the entrance to the pits the next lap. 2 laps after the restart Anderson moved to the lead but the lap was negated when Baker looped his car in turn 4. That moved Jordan Grabouski’s #30 to fourth. The restart plus 1 circuit had Andersen first, Grabouski second, Ruisinger third and Shane Hiatt in fourth. Hiatt passed Ruisinger the next time around and Bob Zoubek put the 5S into fourth. Grabouski moved to first with 6 to go and held on for the victory with Andersen, Hiatt and Zoubek rounding out the top 4.

Grabouski’s 6th win this year at Eagle came from the ninth spot. “That definitely helped pad the points lead, after the way we’ve been running the last 2 nights. We had a great car tonight. Chad made a little mistake and we capitalized on it” stated Grabouski. Grabouski’s sponsors include Friesen Chevrolet, GRT Race Cars, Twin Rivers, Zeck Ford, Integra Racing Shocks and BP Heartland.

Dan Markham looped the #6 in turns 3 & 4 on the start of the ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compact Feature, collecting the 3T of Trenten Fugett and Joseph Baker’s 9X. When a lap was officially in the books Nathan Wahlstrom’s 32X, the 55 of Adam Reiffler, Devin Bruce’s 52D and the 13BS of Justin Callender were the top 4. Tommy Etherton put the 24T into fourth on lap 3 as Callender held onto fourth. Etherton went extremely high with 9 to go in turns 1 and ended up stopping in 3 and 4. That put Callender in third and RJ Maas’ 88K into fourth. Maas took over third 1 lap after the restart. At the finish it was Wahlstrom, Reiffler, Maas and Callender.

This marked Wahlstrom’s initial victory at America’s Home Track in this, his fourth year competing in the class. “I’m really enjoying racing the compacts. It’s fun to race and a fun car to drive. Hopefully I can move up here soon though, but I probably will stay in the compacts another couple of years. Eagle Raceway is an awesome track and I love racing here”. Wahlstrom’s sponsors include Orange Bowl, Ace Lawn Care, Snyder’s Car Care and Maxon’s Hair.

Keith Dragoo put the 77D out in front of the Racesaver IMCA Sprint Car A Main with Chase Weiler’s 0, the 57B of Boyd Peterson and Trey Gropp in the 54 closing out the top 4. Neil Nickolite put the 12N into fourth on lap 2. Danny Neckolite looped the 22D in turns 1 and 2 on lap 12. Clint Benson jumped up to third in the #100 1 lap after the restart. Mike Boston moved to fourth the next time around in the 51. Benson advanced to second the next time around. Boston advanced to third with 8 to go and Adam Gullion put the 91 into fourth after another circuit. Benson passed Dragoo for the lead with 3 laps left but, having gotten into the final 2 turns too hard slipped up and allowed Dragoo to retake the lead on the final lap. The saying usually is that the top 2 could be covered by a blanket, but this time it was more like a cocktail napkin with Dragoo winning, Benson second, Gullion third and Boston fourth.

Dragoo joined the Racesaver sprint car ranks back in 2014, but this was his first ever win. When I mentioned that it was about time, he said “I would say so! The new car is absolutely running great. We should have gotten it out sooner, but we wanted to wait until we got the old one sold so that we could save this one for the end of the year. We evidently saved the best for last. It definitely gives you an advantage starting up front, but we still had to work for it. We got passed with 3 to go and we just didn’t give up. It looked like Clint pushed up a little bit and jumped the cushion. That gave us enough to get back around and drag race to the finish line. We’re the team who runs on used EVERYTHING! We prove that it doesn’t take the best of everything to win a race. We won this race on a set of used tires and a shock package from Jason Martin. One of his guys came over after the race and said, ‘Those seriously aren’t the tires that we gave you, are they?’ and I told him they sure were!!! I couldn’t do this without Ray, he works day and night on the car while we go to our jobs. Also, my family who supports me while we’re out there doing this”. Dragoo’s sponsors include The Shop Inc., Cruzon Graphics and 1320 Video.
